A Vigilant Venture.
Here is the result of one of John and Sandi's trips to Topsham, Devon. This is the Thames Barge VIGILANT (1904) under restoration. The ribs are being replaced in a way that preserves the original shape of the vessel. This process, known as 'sistering', consists of fitting new ribs alongside the old ones. The inner and outer planking is then renewed after the old ribs are taken out. A beautiful new transom has been fitted, carved with the words #VIGILANT and #TOPSHAM. Much work is still to be done. — at Topsham Quay.
